EGR & DPF Problems

We all know Detroit DD15, DD13 has issues with the EGR coolers which can cost a lot of money and downtime on a regular basis. On top of that engine life is not what it should be by a long shot.
DPF issues are usually related to EGR issues, and can be derates, high fuel consumption, turbo issues, no power in the lower rpm range and so on.

Any Detroit DD15 and DD13 with DPF uses at least 5% of it’s total fuel for DPF management, so deleting a DPF will give an instant 5% savings.  Reprogramming not only solves most of these issues, with our program and some driver behaviour changes a real fuel saving is very achievable and saves real money.

If you have EGR and DPF you will have the following weaknesses built into your engine: ​

• High exhaust back pressure, and high exhaust temperature
  
• DPF blocks easily and often
  
• Lots of DPF regeneration cycles, often causing smoke, and the smoke leads to complaints from other road users
  
• High intake temperature, inefficient fuel use
  
• High top ring temperature (less engine life)
  
• High coolant temperature (compromises engine life and coolant systems)
  
• High Fan ON time (up to 80% in some engines)
  
• High soot in the intake, blocked inlet manifolds
  
• EGR cooler failures (often leads to turbo and piston/valve issues)
  
• EGR electronic component problems
  
• Poor throttle response and low power complaints
  
• Poor fuel consumption
  
• High soot loading in the engine oil, causing extra wear and needing more frequent oil changes
  
• Lots of time off the road, on top of being parked up for DPF regeneration
